Case Study: Click Pay
Click Pay, the fintech solution that connected businesses, users, and the banking sector during the pandemic
The fintech solution that helped connect businesses, users, and the banking sector during the pandemic
Context
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Bolivian businesses faced severe restrictions on physical commerce, while consumers struggled to access everyday products and services under lockdown.
The local financial market lacked mature infrastructure for remote or digital payments, leaving merchants and cardholders without a secure way to transact without in-person contact.
Banco BISA, a leading Bolivian bank, needed a mobile payment solution that would let users pay with tokenized debit and credit cards from anywhere, without requiring a physical POS terminal or card presence at the point of sale.
Challenge
Existing payment methods in Bolivia depended heavily on physical POS terminals and in-person card presence, which made remote and contactless transactions nearly impossible.
Merchants had no reliable way to collect payments when customers could not visit their premises, and consumers had no trusted, secure channel to pay digitally across different types of cards, including international ones.
The market also lacked a unified ecosystem connecting end-user payments, merchant collections, and business administration, forcing any new solution to be built from scratch, natively, for both iOS and Android, with enterprise-grade security from day one.
The SSI
Solution
SSI designed and built Click, a three-app payment ecosystem for Banco BISA: Click Pay for end users, Click Business for merchants, and Click Administrator for business management. Click Pay let users tokenize debit and credit cards, including international ones, and pay through three flexible methods: remote payment via phone number, in-person QR scanning, and merchant-branded Gift Cards.
Security was reinforced with PIN, Face ID, and biometric authentication, while real-time notifications let users approve or reject payment requests instantly. Click Business gave merchants desktop and mobile tools to generate charges, while Click Administrator enabled branch, POS, and user management, plus exportable transaction reports, delivering a fully connected, bank-backed Fintech experience built by a local Bolivian team.
Impact
- Launched with Banco BISA's sponsorship as one of Bolivia's first Fintech mobile payment ecosystems
- Rolled out initially in La Paz and Santa Cruz through a strategic alliance with ATC (Red Enlace)
- Onboarded more than 180 businesses and companies to the platform
- Facilitated secure payments and commercial exchange across the local merchant network
- Launched on both iOS and Android, giving merchants a viable alternative to physical POS terminals and cardholders a secure, contactless way to pay during a period of severely constrained in-person commerce
